A Reflection on Today’s Literature (1)
Authors:
Modern Persian poetry is considered a response to a general need stemming from intellectual and social growth and historical necessity, creating a fresh space in Persian poetry and paving the way for the emergence of significant poets with diverse styles. These poets have drawn their innovation and creativity from the rich heritage of past poetry. A critic has stated, ‘Modern poets must possess a deeper understanding of the nature of art compared to poets of previous eras.’ This book briefly explains the evolution of Persian poetry from the Constitutional Era to the 1380s (2000s) and clarifies the various elements of modern poetry and its differences from traditional poetry, catering to the needs of Persian language and literature students and other poetry enthusiasts. The book encompasses contemporary literary history, structural and content analysis of modern poetry, an introduction to different movements and branches, and interpretations of poems by contemporary poets. It acquaints readers with the roots of the decades-long debate between traditional and modern poetry—still ongoing in literary circles and publications—and analyzes and introduces the pioneers and followers of each contemporary poetic style. When compiling this collection, efforts were made to utilize the theories of critics and experts in modern poetry from pre-revolutionary years, drawing from the works of figures like Reza Baraheni, Mohammad Hoghooghi, Mohammad Mokhtari, Shams Langroudi, Ali Babachahi, and others. Major chapters, each containing several sections, include Constitutional Era Poetry, Post-Constitutional Poetry, Nima Youshij, Contemporary Poetry After the 1320s (1940s), Early Modern Poetry Movements, Subsequent Poets and Branches, Prominent Modernist Poets, Modern Poetry from the 1350s (1970s) to the Islamic Revolution, Post-Revolution Poetry, Modern Poetry, Modernist Poets Post-Revolution, Traditional Forms from the Constitutional Era to the 1380s (2000s), Ballad and Ballad-Writing, and Poetry and Literature for Children and Adolescents.
