Wonderland

A 160-page novel that is nothing more than a single paragraph; a 160-page paragraph. I’m talking about “Wonderland,” the latest novel by Jafar Modarres-Sadeghi, which was recently published. The way it’s written—not just in being paragrapheless but the entire language used throughout the novel—conveys a sense of relentless talking to the reader. It’s a novel that was written very quickly (at least its initial draft) and is read very quickly. If the story of Noushin and her family, Ali, Jim, and the others grips you, you’ll finish it in five or six hours. One of the themes of the novel is this very act of writing and reading and related issues, such as the lives of those whose work revolves around writing.
