The Song of Gabriel’s Wing

The Song of Gabriel’s Feather, written by “Abutorab Khosravi,” is a modern reinterpretation of the thoughts of “Shahab al-Din Yahya Suhrawardi,” known as Sheikh al-Ishraq. In this work, the author revisits and reconstructs Suhrawardi’s writings and, in fact, his philosophy through fourteen stories. “Abutorab Khosravi,” one of the most successful contemporary Iranian writers in the field of storytelling, has stated that “The Song of Gabriel’s Feather” is a rendition inspired by the allegories and tales of Sheikh al-Ishraq, without claiming a full understanding or uncovering of all the hidden layers of “Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi’s” philosophy. Instead, he focuses more on exploring Suhrawardi’s literary innovations and narratives than on delving into his mystical and complex theological works. As a result, “The Song of Gabriel’s Feather” revolves around narrating Suhrawardi’s stories, ultimately leading to allegories. These allegories are rooted in the meaning and essence of his mystical wisdom, which scrutinizes the universe with a questioning lens. “Abutorab Khosravi,” emphasizing the storytelling style of Sheikh al-Ishraq, employs elements such as peacocks, owls, and hoopoes to depict human behavior and actions using cultural and ritualistic symbols. Although these elements take animal forms, they represent human thoughts and ideas, analyzing human actions and conduct. “The Song of Gabriel’s Feather,” authored by “Abutorab Khosravi,” has been published by Nimaj Publishing in 120 pages.
