The Eternal Inner Speaker

Whenever the inner self becomes a thinking imagination, its imagination increases by reason. Does Rumi not have the right to be upset with us humans, especially Persian speakers? Did he wish that the most fundamental insights of a lifetime of relentless effort in the inner and outer worlds, reflected uniquely in his masterpiece ‘Masnavi,’ would be so neglected? If Rumi were to return to life, wouldn’t he ask us what answers we have found for these questions? Then you mumble to yourself softly, responding to my thought, that wonder: Have you sought to unravel the mystery of that wonder and told yourself why I, a human, must constantly engage in silent dialogue, imagination, and thought day and night? When I have repeatedly expressed this in various forms in my poems below, did no question arise in your mind? Whenever a thought, like a dear guest, comes into the chest as dear to the soul, a multitude of armies of images rush eagerly towards the spring of the heart from thirst; that imagination comes out from within like the earth giving birth from its seed. When I briefly recount its growth, various types draw me into speech. All people are the mockery of thought; therefore, they are weary-hearted and sorrowful. Have you, in these eight centuries, asked yourself why that old man caused so much commotion about the presence of thought and imagination in the mind, and most importantly, why he did not consider me, the human, as the actor and processor of those thoughts and imaginations, instead regarding the flow of thought and imagination as beyond my control and will? Are you sure this is an epistemological-theoretical problem to be sought within mentalities, not in the field of brain and psychological sciences? Was his goal to drown us in seventy tons of paper? Then for what purpose have you filled so many volumes of interpretation, explanation, and round-the-clock programs and continue to pursue them?
