Postmodernism in German-Language Literature

The author of this study has attempted to contribute to the completion of research in this field by introducing the writings and viewpoints of German-speaking experts. For this reason, the book begins with a review of the history of German literature in recent decades and how it has developed through transgressive movements, followed by a summary of the main thematic axes of literary criticism: – The first chapter is devoted to introducing movements and works that, due to their innovation in form and literary language, do not fit within conventional frameworks of literary criticism, some of which are considered pioneers of postmodernist approaches in German literature. – The second chapter examines the role of German philosophy in the genealogy of postmodernism and the differences and convergences of this movement with the Frankfurt School and hermeneutic approaches, which have had a significant impact on the orientations of theoretical sciences and German literature. – In the third and fourth chapters, two successful novels are interpreted, reflecting the most important components of postmodernist works, such as the death of the subject, absence of meaning, and the transition from grand narratives, employing innovative techniques. – The final chapter introduces works that have not formed within the context of literary postmodernism but offer a blend of different narrative procedures and techniques that have opened the way for postmodernist readings of them.
