Politics is the foundation of forming society, and philosophy is the basis of political thought in shaping social life. In other words, philosophy, society, and politics are three inseparable companions that grow together, and their thriving existence depends on this coexistence: a society cannot flourish without guiding politics, and politics needs enlightening philosophy to be applied. The book “Philosophy, Society, and Politics,” written by a group of authors and translated by Ezzatollah Fouladvand, consists of thirty-six articles that separate the most important elements forming the main pillars of discussion, which is the relationship among philosophy, society, and politics. Topics include the connection between freedom and social values, the confrontation between Islam and the West, intellectuals’ perspectives on politics, political ethics, and politics’ role in the formation and downfall of a society. A major noteworthy and approved aspect of such a book is the name of the compiler and translator associated with it. Ezzatollah Fouladvand, as a significant figure in translating valuable philosophical works, is a reliable name. As is clear, the abundance of articles in the book allows readers to choose specific categories of articles based on their interests and postpone reading others to another time. Obviously, reading Karl Popper’s views on cultural encounters might be more appealing to someone dedicated to pluralism than Thomas Mann’s general perspectives in a historical letter (and vice versa). However, reading all the articles is not without merit, especially if we do not approach them in a fully specialized manner. In this case, Philosophy, Society, and Politics is full of enlightening and practical opinions expressed by some of the great figures in these three fields and will enhance our understanding of surrounding issues, from the causes of wars to the concept of freedom. Fortunately, the present book is a diverse work where you can find a touch of beauty in every part.
