Philosophy of History, which addresses its “Methodology and Historiography,” is a work composed of a collection of essays compiled by Hossein Ali Nozari. The concept of philosophical reflection on history and its nature is more than interpretation and perception, and modern authors find it easier to consider it as two main types. On the one hand, they distinguish the philosophy of history in the traditional or classical sense, whose subject is the historical process as a whole, aiming generally to provide a comprehensive explanation or account of the path and direction the process has taken. On the other hand, philosophy of history is presented as a second-order essay, where the focus is not on the actual sequence of events but on the procedures and categories historians use to approach the subject and understand the material. The former, often called theoretical philosophy of history, has a long and diverse history. The latter, generally known as critical or analytical philosophy of history, became prominent in the twentieth century. Although the topics discussed around “philosophy of history” occupied a central place in twentieth-century critical debate, they are only examples of the issues analytical philosophers of history have paid attention to. Other concerns that attracted attention include freedom and responsibility of historical agents, the nature and description of historical events, and the role of narrative in history. The book “Philosophy of History,” dedicated to “Methodology and Historiography,” includes essays that address aspects of these issues. The approach taken in these essays has yielded significant results, shedding clear light on the characteristics of historical research.
