Opening the Novel

*”Opening the Novel”*, written by *Hossein Payandeh*, is a work that delves into the topic of “The Novel in Iran Through the Lens of Literary Theory and Criticism.” The primary audience for this work consists of literary critics and novelists seeking a knowledgeable perspective on literary theories. However, due to the fluent prose and simple language employed by the author, in addition to the mentioned groups, individuals interested in literary criticism and storytelling will also find the book an enjoyable read. The foundation of this book is built on the analysis of the opening scenes of novels. In this context, ten of the best fictional works of the country, along with the short story *”Three Drops of Blood”* and the film *”Hamoun”*, have been selected. The opening scene of each narrative is analyzed, and its connection to the rest of the text is identified. In “Opening the Novel,” *Hossein Payandeh* has composed every chapter with a methodological approach. He begins each chapter with a theoretical discussion and then provides a detailed analysis of the opening scene of the novel based on that discussion. Subsequently, through critiquing the respective work, he examines the relationship of the opening scene with the other sections. Thus, by reading this work, readers become familiar with critical concepts, their application in the practical critique of ten renowned novels, methods of analyzing novelistic elements, and discussions on contemporary literary theories. At the end of the book, to facilitate comprehension, commonly used terms in novel criticism are explained.
