Marxism and Social Sciences in Iran

The book “Marxism and Social Sciences in Iran” written by Alireza Moradi and published by Agar Publishing examines the problematic relation of the Marxist perspective with social sciences in Iran, which can be of great significance. This relationship has always been a controversial topic that has never been systematically researched. The book, focusing on a number of Marxist intellectual efforts, outlines two types of social sciences in Iran: the “Marxist perspective of social sciences” versus the “dominant approach in social sciences.” This study shows that the history of social science in Iran has generally been narrated from a positivist approach. To provide a broad picture of the other perspective, it examines the theoretical bases of differences between Marxism and sociology, distinctive aspects of the two types of social sciences in Iran, theoretical dimensions of Marxism in Iran, and the impact of the Tudeh Party of Iran on the development of social sciences. It also discusses the ideas of Avatis Mikailian (Soltanzadeh) as one of the pioneers of Marxist social sciences before the establishment of universities in Iran.
