Leila, the Count’s Daughter

The count was an adventurous Italian-French nobleman who, after being exiled from Italy, lived within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During Naser al-Din Shah’s second trip to Vienna, impressed by the discipline and organization of the local police, he requested the Austrian emperor to send one of his best officers to establish and organize the police force in Tehran. The count, de Montfour, was dispatched to Iran. Leila, the count’s daughter, was renowned for her unique beauty and was a famous social figure in Tehran. However, she experienced strange and tragic events that darkened her life. Through this story, the author aims not only to entertain the reader but also to depict the darkness, ugliness, and events of the era of tyranny that shaped the ups and downs of modern Iranian history.
