Confessions written by Hamed Ebrahimpour includes 62 short humorous stories. Hamed Ebrahimpour is mostly known for his poetry books; however, this book is a collection of his memories written in a humorous style. The book is essentially a compilation of notes, confessions, fears, memories, stories, and writer’s personal writings, and he admits that he is unable to categorize or give a unified name to them. It covers a wide range of the author’s personal emotions and experiences, presented sporadically without a defined narrative structure. “Confessions” can be seen as a kind of diary or collection of the author’s heartfelt writings, in which he expresses his inner thoughts and feelings freely without any censorship or limitations. The memories are often triggered by seeing a photo, message, obituary notice, or something that emerges from dusty corners of memory. Sometimes, the stories are about lost people whom the author knew from near or far and could not forget. The author believes: “People have hope and worry; excitement and fatigue; laughter and tears… their situation is unclear.” Based on this reasoning, he concludes that “the book’s situation is also unclear. For this reason, I could not find an explanation to add after its title. Should I call it daily notes? A memoir? A short story collection? I wrote nothing. Call it whatever you want.” However, in the book’s contents, the author uses the term “cases” for the titles of the writings. Many of these “cases” relate to the narrator’s friendly relationships with girls and failed love affairs—from a street girl to an Armenian girl, from Arab to Persian. “Case of the Jinn”, “Case of Harry the Dirty”, “Case of Pizza”, “Case of Mr. Father”, “Case of Guidance”, “Case of Animal Rights”, “Case of Madness”, “Case of Scandal”, “Case of Birth”, “Case of Bad Singing”, “Case of Mother Sheherazade”, “Case of Hossan Niang”, “Case of the Telephone”, “Case of the Crow”, “Case of the Child”, “Case of Mr. Morteza” and others are some of the 62 cases found in this book. “Confessions” can be appealing to those interested in personal experiences and memoirs.
