Wooden Horse

Elham Fallah’s novel is about those who, despite all the efforts and attempts to improve their lives and relationships, fail to take even a single step forward on this path. The story revolves around women who harbor love in their hearts but are afraid to express it, bound and limited by chains woven by other women. Wooden Horse narrates the story of those who, despite their struggles, do not advance even a step in life. The story begins with the bankruptcy and major financial crime of a man, whose flames engulf the main character, his wife, and everyone in her life. This large financial collapse ignites a clash between two generations: the female protagonist, who is now an independent woman with a child, and her mother—two generations battling over acceptance of feminine traditions and the worldview imposed by Iranian society. The mother resists; she is a dominant woman who, before this ruin, always controlled her daughter’s feminine world. Wooden Horse tells the story of all women who have love in their hearts and closed lips; women who dream of running freely across the fields but are chained by bonds woven by their peers.
