The Tragedy of Desire

Majid’s stories should be viewed from this perspective: a perspective of emerging contradictions, a perspective of confusion caused by the intersection of poverty and desire. Revisiting and reviewing Majid’s stories from this angle not only stands opposite to a nostalgic viewpoint but also directs attention to the less observed elements within this work. This book is the result and carrier of such a perspective and seeks to offer a fresh look at this important literary and cinematic work of Iranian literature, away from nostalgic views or predefined frameworks about the portrayal of poverty or stories about children and adolescents. The book consists of two essays; the first essay mainly focuses on the story of Majid written by Houshang Moradi Kermani and the second mainly considers the narrative of Kiomarth Pourahmad. However, the direction and main lines of both essays are based on common (and sometimes different) concerns.
