The Survivor of Mr. F.F is a novel by a young and promising Iranian author, Setareh Roshan, which depicts seven intense and anxious days with precise and breathtaking details. These seven days follow the death of the greatest merchant in Iran, sparking many controversies. The novel revolves around the relationships and decisions of a wealthy and affluent family, narrated by Saeed, the grandson of the family. Saeed has a younger brother, and besides him, a close friend named Sina, who is almost like a brother to him. Setareh Roshan begins the five hundred and eighty-page long novel “The Survivor of Mr. F.F” directly with the announcement of the death of the patriarch of the Farahmand family. After years of life and a long presence in this transient world, the man has finally closed his eyes forever and said goodbye to life. However, facing his death is not a sad or tearful event like with many other wealthy people, because those around him can now take out the knife and fork they have long sharpened in their pocket and greedily devour whatever remains of his wealth. Thus, it can be said that Setareh Roshan, in “The Survivor of Mr. F.F,” confronts the reader with responsibility, obligations, and selfishness. No one can judge another because every person answers according to their situation and responsibility, and most of the time when it is our turn, we calmly and indifferently cross all the rules and orders we impose on others, prioritizing personal desires and interests.
