The Alley of Acacia

The Alley of Acacias is a social and family novel that explores the lives of women from various social classes. This novel attempts to address the challenges and struggles in the lives of these women. The main characters in some of Razieh Tajar’s notable novels, such as “Good Night Peace, Love of Morning, The Glass Woman, and The Rainbow Lady,” are women. For this reason, focusing on women and their issues is one of the central themes of her novels. The story of the book begins when Mirza Abutorab marries Mah-Manzar, a young woman, while his daughter Delnavaz is against this marriage, as her mother lost her sanity during her birth and has been chained in the basement for a while. With the arrival of the young wife, Khanom Jan, Mirza’s mother, orders that the mother and daughter be sent to Delnavaz’s uncle’s house. The two try to escape from there, but their plan fails, and after the girl is returned home, she faces Mah-Manzar’s improper behavior. After a series of events between Mah-Manzar and Delnavaz and the intensification of disputes, “Khanom Kuchak” (Delnavaz’s mother) is sent to a mental hospital by her parents because Mirza agreed to care for her only if she recovered. During her stay in the hospital, events occur that lead to her recovery. With the return of Mirza’s former wife, past differences are resolved, and the two wives peacefully live together, and Mirza and Delnavaz thank God.
