Sweet Obsession

Sweet Obsession is a book by Nima Ghorbani that explores one of the greatest challenges in human life: affectionate love. Some people believe that neither do they belong to love nor is loving their role; instead, they consider it to be reserved for mystics and lunatics. However, love is like a spectrum on which every person occupies a position; often moving along it and sometimes pausing. The movement can be slow or fast, with some standing at the top and some at the bottom of the spectrum. “Sweet Obsession” by Nima Ghorbani traces this spectrum step by step through five characters in motion.
The five main characters observed in “Sweet Obsession” by Nima Ghorbani include a passionate king, a heedless servant girl, a healing physician, a helpless goldsmith, and finally a modern man. In a narrative, they move together, portraying and critiquing others’ journeys along the path of love. The first four characters are the four main faces of life’s game, each guiding it on a different path. The king is the figure who owns everything, the servant girl obeys others’ commands, the physician has a healing hand and heart, and the goldsmith is unable to enter the domain of the heart. Everything revolves among these figures, and ultimately the reader must conclude toward which one their life tends to gravitate.
