The book “Story Therapy” written by Shahin Sharafati explores the connection between psychotherapy and storytelling. The author accompanies the reader through twenty stories featuring characters who struggle with various disorders. Although these characters may not be directly connected to us, they are not unlike the people we pass by every day. The author aims to present each individual’s problems through storytelling. Many individuals we encounter daily carry burdens we are unaware of. Reading this book fosters greater empathy towards everyone in society and encourages behaviors and reactions that ensure no one’s peace is disturbed. Additionally, we may have people around us suffering from such disorders, and this book provides information about different disorders to help us better understand their lives. Among the disorders discussed are bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and narcissistic personality disorder. In today’s world, it is essential for everyone to learn about psychological and personality disorders, and this work succeeds in this regard by teaching many points through storytelling and character development. It should be noted that the author’s intention in writing “Story Therapy” is not diagnosis or treatment, and these issues should be addressed by visiting a psychotherapist. The final section, titled “Appendix: Familiarity with Disorders,” offers readers information about each disorder mentioned in the book. This book may be interesting for those who enjoy fictional literature and psychological books. The author has also hosted programs such as “Radio Haft” and “Hal-e Khoob.”
