Selected Persian Sayings

This writing extracts and compiles selections including poetry and prose from Persian literary masterpieces. The author begins with a summary of Golestan for the readers, then presents poems from Ferdowsi, including the Battle of Rostam and Ashkabus. In subsequent pages, the tale of Hasanak the Minister is drawn from Bayhaqi’s history, notable for both important historical points and literary beauty. The story of Joseph and Zuleikha from Attar of Nishapur, the chapter of Borzouye the Physician from Kalila and Dimna, various tales from Saadi’s Golestan, and ‘The Dead I Was, Now Alive’ from Rumi are also featured. The book further includes “The House of Reason Was Burned by the Tavern” by Hafez and poems by contemporary poets such as Parvin Etesami, Bahar, Nima, Fereydoun Moshiri, and Akhavan Sales in the final sections.
