This work is distinguished from other published works about Alamut because the author, besides examining the causes of the rise and fall of the Ismaili rulers led by Hassan-i Sabbah, also explores the Justani rulers who governed Alamut before the Ismailis. Furthermore, the changes in Alamut after the fall of the Ismailis at the hands of the Mongols, then the era of local Daylamite governors ruling the Alamut region, the fate of the Ismailis of Alamut in subsequent centuries, and other developments in the area have been studied. Overall, the author, with a comprehensive view beyond the Ismaili period, which has been the central focus of most writers on Alamut, tries to draw the attention of those interested in historical and cultural discussions to the fact that Alamut, besides the significance of the Ismaili castles, possesses unique historical and cultural features and tourist attractions. Today, these aspects on one hand attract more tourists and on the other hand could pose challenges to this historical region and its pristine nature.
