Raw Wine

Raw Wine is the first novel published by “Esmaeil Fasih,” which not only received remarkable attention from readers but also inspired a film starring “Davood Rashidi” based on its storyline. “Raw Wine” tells the story of a young man named “Jalal Aryan,” who was studying in the United States and has now returned to Iran to take care of his ailing brother “Yousef” for specific reasons. “Yousef,” who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, has a unique personality; he is highly idealistic and now only wishes to die and reach paradise. In contrast, “Jalal” has a more balanced character, with no particular dependency or expectations from life. He is neither overly hopeful nor holds specific aspirations, and all he knows is that one must endure and go on with life. To these two characters, “Naser Tajaddod” is also added, who believes life is meaningless and worthless; one of the compelling parts of the story is the dialogues between “Jalal” and “Naser.” “Jalal Aryan” also has a sister named “Farangis” who lives in the south. After certain events unfold at his workplace, he is forced to travel south. An employee named “Mahin,” who was pregnant, resigns and commits suicide on a train. Now, “Jalal Aryan,” like a detective, seeks to uncover the secrets behind this incident. “Esmaeil Fasih” employs a fluent narrative style to tell the story of “Raw Wine,” and this thrilling tale takes the reader back to the years before the revolution, where the author crosses red lines.
