Homayoun Katouzian’s fame has primarily been in the fields of social and economic sciences, history, and literary criticism, but he has occasionally composed poetry since childhood. “Khesht-e Kham” (Raw Brick), his first poetry collection, was initially published in 1998 by Nashr Markaz and is now being released for the third time. Katouzian writes both in traditional poetic forms and modern styles, and he states that the form, structure, innovations, and literary tools are determined by the content of the poem as well as the poet’s particular state of mind while composing, and that he does not select them entirely voluntarily. Moreover, he believes that all types and forms of poetry constitute poetry.
