Rain of Stars

In the very captivating and profound novel Rain of Stars, Azam Naderi tells of the emotional and spiritual upheavals and the romantic love passions of a woman who has a husband and three children and, in her imaginary world, summons ten famous lovers from masterpieces of Persian literature—Rabia, Veys, Leyli, Shirin, Zoleikha, Rudabeh, Sudabeh, Manijeh, the daughter of Teresa, and Zohreh—to dialogues addressing some of the most important existential issues and problems of humanity, such as love, determinism and free will, religion and tradition, and the oppression women have faced in patriarchal societies. Within these dialogues, the author’s profound philosophical, psychological, and sociological thoughts find expression. I greatly enjoyed reading this novel and gained much insight. I strongly recommend reading it and look forward to the author’s other works.
