Music in the Ghaznavid Era

The subject of this book is the social and theoretical developments of music during the Ghaznavid period (366-582 AH). It discusses the importance of social powers and their roles in the social positions of musicians and contemporary beliefs; the influence of the dominant religious thought (Islam) on music of this era; a deeper understanding of the cultural influences from Iran, Turkic peoples, Arabs, Transoxiana, and India on musical developments; a detailed examination of the captivity of the Lurians (Gypsies) during the Ghaznavid period; recognition of social impacts on the musical system of Pardegani; identification of musicians and common instruments; and investigation of theoretical musical developments as part of the Old Khorasan school, along with deeper insight into the formation stages of the Pardegani and rhythmic systems. These are among the research goals.
