Mehr of Hafez

The writings of this book have been compiled after spending several years studying almost all the works of ancient Persian poetry and prose up to the end of the eighth century, which have been edited and published. The goal was to achieve the correct form of Hafez’s poetry, clarify grammatical ambiguities, and uncover the true meanings of verses in Hafez’s Divan that have long been disputed among Hafez scholars and commentators. Regarding many words, phrases, and expressions that I have identified as belonging to Hafez but have been excluded by copyists from Hafez’s verses without evidence, replacing them with their own conjectures without research or proof, I have not spoken without documentation and reasoning to support their correctness. Therefore, I am confident that lovers of Hafez’s poetry and scholars who, like me, have devoted their lives to distinguishing authenticity in Hafez’s poetry will not easily overlook any of my writings on the discussed verses. This acknowledgment is more valuable to me than any praise or applause. I dedicate all my efforts to approaching poetry that truly belongs to Hafez.
