Lady of Leila

The narrator in this story is a teacher who sets foot on an apparently unknown island. Early in his work, he realizes that the previous teacher was murdered, and now he is supposed to take over the teaching job. The murder of the previous teacher constantly occupies his mind to the extent that he tries to identify the murderer and revisit the crime. The narrator suspects everyone he meets, always searching anxiously and fearfully for the killer. In the twelfth chapter, he fully uncovers the identity of the murderer but does not reveal any of his secrets. However, another man who, according to the police officers, is the “killer” is arrested and after some time, he hangs himself, thereby ending the murder story. In the thirteenth chapter, the narrator pursues the story in the “present time,” because what appeared as the “present time” in the previous twelve chapters was only the past. After 23 years, he once again sets foot on the island and, in a conversation with a woman, reveals the killer. Apparently, the murderer, in his view, is a historical causality, a sharp era, and deadly relations that have always stained his hands with the blood of others.
