Jan Jan

R.A. Nicholson (1868-1945) was a great English orientalist, a late professor at Cambridge University, and one of the most sincere lovers of Iranian culture. He was the first scholar to critically and scientifically edit the Masnavi of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi (Rumi) and publish it in its modern form. Nicholson undoubtedly was one of the greatest researchers who devoted half a century of his life to studying Islamic mysticism and Sufism. His invaluable works have become authoritative scientific references for mysticism researchers and especially lovers of Rumi. “Jan Jan” is a collection of 48 selected ghazals from the Divan of Shams Tabrizi, translated into English by Nicholson with scholarly precision. With his valuable annotations, he elaborates on and highlights notable points in the selected ghazals.
