The Iranian Selves: Our Critical Ontology by Mohammadreza Tajik is a critical ontology book about the question of “how we have become what we are.” You might wonder, “What benefit is there in knowing how we became what we are?” or “Why should we know how we have turned into our current state?” Mohammadreza Tajik responds to this question by stating that “this process both reveals the limitations of our present state and provides the possibility of becoming something other than what we are.” He believes that today’s Iranian society, more than ever, needs to understand this matter and critically reflect on its existence and essence. However, it seems that the individuals of this society, as if sealing their eyes and ears, refuse to accept the necessity of a critical examination of themselves.
