The present book was first published under the title “The Melancholy Village: (Stories from the Countryside)” by Sepehr Publications in 1968. Faghiri was born in Shiraz and grew up in a family of literature and culture. When he went to the village dressed as a member of the Literacy Corps, the bitter life of the villagers compelled him to write about them. He published the result of four years of writing, all included in his first collection of stories titled “The Melancholy Village,” at the age of 23.
