How Did Japan Become Japan?

Change in a nation, society, or people can be considered as transformation in development and progress. Change within the self is akin to upbringing because human nature is altered through education. Upbringing changes individuals and transforms societies. If a nation is nurtured toward growth and evolution, then society will develop along the same path. Otherwise, with deviation in the education of individuals, development in that society will decline. Therefore, a developed nation does not necessarily maintain a constant, fixed path of progress forever. They can continue growing even amidst moral, cultural, and scientific decline in their upbringing. Many civilizations reached high levels of advancement because of the proper upbringing of their initial generations, while in subsequent generations, neglect in proper education led to deterioration and collapse. Conversely, the opposite process is possible as well, where a new generation may emerge through correct upbringing to restore and elevate the path of development.
