Eve on the Street

Category:

This collection is a selection of 15 short stories arranged in three sections: “Eve on the Street,” “Love,” and “Crisis.” For example, in “Eve on the Street,” the narrator brings a street woman named “Eve” home and shortly after she leaves, hears a terrifying sound and is shocked to see that Eve has had an accident. At this moment, he remembers his fiancée Parvin, whom he is supposed to call, but he hangs up the phone. As he describes: “I heard a scream and something passed in front of the window, and a moment later, the muffled sound of an object falling to the ground came. A car braked and noise rose. Someone shouted… The telephone handset had fallen on the table, but the phone kept ringing… The siren drowned the crowd’s murmur and moved away, but it was still possible to hear its sound.”
