Ethical Standards in Saadi’s Viewpoint

The subject of this book is the examination of Saadi’s views and opinions on ethics. The purpose of this compilation is to understand the true feelings and thoughts of the people in Islamic countries in daily life, to gain awareness of their problems, and the ways these people deal with issues through the study of Saadi’s ideas. The Japanese author of this work, influenced by the Iranian ethical tradition before and after Islam, attempts first to explore the concept of ethics and ethical wisdom from the perspective of various cultures, and then to study the ethical standards from Saadi’s viewpoint. In doing so, the author provides a precise historical account of the social, political, and cultural circumstances during Saadi’s time. While introducing this figure with attention to his writings and poems, especially ‘Bostan’ and ‘Golestan,’ the author’s focus is on Saadi’s ethical beliefs regarding kings, royal officials, scholars and sages, mystics and dervishes, and noble people. The book then highlights the importance of admonition and advice, the conditions for giving advice, and the command of virtue from the perspective of this world-renowned poet.
