Encyclopedia of Political Prisons in the Pahlavi Era Volume 1
Authors:
This encyclopedia aims to raise awareness about the atmosphere of repression and dictatorship prevailing during the Pahlavi era, familiarize readers with the commonly used terms, expressions, and definitions among political prisoners, recount some historical events related to political prisons, and finally provide biographies of the executors and agents of this political phenomenon. The time span covered by the encyclopedia of Pahlavi political prisons begins with Seyyed Ziaeddin Tabatabai’s coup in Esfand 1299 (March 1921) and continues until February 11, 1979. This research extracted around 600 entries from existing written and oral sources, identified through studying books and oral memoirs related to political prisons, and through repeated meetings with experts and elites in this field. After selecting the entries, related information was gathered from various sources. All entries pertain to elements linked to the prison environment, focusing on political prisons, except for a few entries included for specific reasons. The selected entries are divided into various topics, each with subtopics. The entries are classified into 20 groups, including torture, torture instruments, public places, prison terminology, and all subjects related to prisons and prisoners of that period.
