Divan of Hafez with Miniatures

Hafez’s Divan contains nearly 500 ghazals—each typically consisting of 7 to 12 couplets—and his other compositions, including qasidas, fragments, masnavis, quatrains, and the like, are very few and have little significance. The total number of ghazals generally accepted is less than 500: 495 ghazals in the Qazvini and Ghani edition, 486 ghazals in Khanlari’s second edition, and 484 ghazals in Sāyeh’s edition. The authenticity of Hafez’s quatrains is seriously in doubt, and therefore all quatrains have been removed from Sāyeh’s edition.
