Commentary on a Selection from Al-Mutanabbi’s Divan

Commentary on a selection from Al-Mutanabbi’s Divan includes translations of some Arabic odes by Abu Tayyib Ahmed ibn al-Hussein, known as Al-Mutanabbi (303 – 354 AH). These poems are composed in praise, eulogy, and elegy, especially in praise of Saif al-Dawla, praise and satire of Kafur, and praise and elegy of Abu Shuja Fatik. In the present translation, the meanings of Arabic words and phrases are first provided.
