Burning Plains

The Scorching Plains is a work by Sadegh Karmiar. By dividing this novel into various narrations, he aimed to depict aspects of Iran’s history during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah. Therefore, describing some historical details within a simple story where storytelling plays a significant role has been of special importance to him. Addressing issues and moments from the events of this period in Iran’s history, which revolve around episodes of World War I and the presence of foreign powers in Iran, combined with a view of the era of Naser al-Din Shah in passages that do not stray too far from the spirit of storytelling, are among the impactful aspects of this book. Karmiar has also stated that focusing on the role and presence of England and Germany in the events of that period in Iran’s history is one of the focal points of this novel.
