Apple Ghazal

Apple Ghazal is a collection of short stories by Munir al-Din Bayruti, all written or finalized in the 1990s. According to the notes at the end of each story, all of them were rewritten several times, refined, and ultimately turned into a cohesive and unified whole that is exemplary in narrative quality and linguistic excellence. Munir al-Din Bayruti, the author of this collection, was born in Baghdad in June 1970. His first short story was published in 1997 in Adineh magazine. Subsequently, his works appeared in several literary magazines in Tehran and other cities, such as Me’yar and Asr Panjshanbeh. He has published numerous short story collections and novels. Bayruti won the fourth and sixth Hooshang Golshiri Awards in 2004 and 2006 with his short story collection “Tak Khesht” and his novel “Four Pains”, respectively. In fact, Munir al-Din Bayruti has been a tireless narrator and a prestigious and well-known figure in Iranian storytelling from the late 1990s to the present. In his novels and story collections, he pays close attention both to “what to say” and “how to say it”; this focus on “how to say it” has made Bayruti possess a unique voice and style. His books can be regarded as significant literary events in the Iranian literary scene.
