A Sleep Amidst the Clamor

How can I believe in his death? I, who am brought to tears by the withering of a flower, by the silent gaze of a sick child, by the lament of a canary in a cage, by the sorrow of a man in chains, even a murderer on the gallows! Tears fill my eyes, and a lump is in my throat. In these days, venom is in my cup, and serpent’s venom is in my jar.
