Hossein Azimi

Hossein Azimi Arani was an Iranian economist known for his insightful critique of economic policies in post-war Iran. He openly highlighted the significant flaws in the country’s adjustment policies during the first development plan and accurately anticipated the economic crisis that followed. Azimi believed that economics is a branch of the humanities, and thus, national economic theories should be shaped according to a nation’s unique circumstances. After completing his doctoral studies at Oxford, where his research focused on the relationship between economic growth, income distribution, and poverty in Iran, he chose to serve his country despite offers abroad, dedicating himself to fostering favorable economic conditions at home.
