Hassan Kamshad

Hassan Kamshad (originally Jasn Mir Mohammad Sadeghi) was born in Isfahan and completed his early education there before pursuing literary studies. After high school, he studied law at the University of Tehran, then worked in the oil industry in southern Iran. During this period, he engaged in leftist political activities and, following the political upheaval of August 1953, relocated to Tehran. Later invited by Cambridge University, he taught Persian language and pursued advanced studies in Persian language and literature, completing a doctoral thesis on contemporary Persian prose. His research was published in England as Modern Persian Prose Literature, which later became a foundational work for new Persian prose. Kamshad served as a Persian professor at Cambridge and as a visiting professor at the University of California. After returning to Iran for several years, he moved to London with the oil company and devoted his retirement to writing and translation. In his youth, he changed his surname from Mir Mohammad Sadeghi to Kamshad.
