Ghiyath al-Din Khwandamir

Ghiyath al-Din Khwandamir was a prominent 10th-century historian known for his prolific contributions to Persian historiography. A descendant of the earlier historian Mir Khwand, Khwandamir began his career at the court of Sultan Husayn Bayqara, gaining favor with the influential Amir Ali Shir Nava’i. Later, he served under the Mughal rulers Babur and Humayun in India. His literary legacy includes numerous important works, with his most celebrated being Habib al-Siyar, a comprehensive historical narrative. Khwandamir’s writings demonstrate a deep engagement with the political and cultural currents of his time, reflecting both his learned background and his courtly experiences.
