The book “Pathology of Iranian Proverbs” written by Mojtaba Ghasemlou is published by Zovar Publications. In this book, the author attempts to extract and analyze numerous proverbs, many of which are part of our cultural heritage. He briefly discusses the pathology of each proverb. To compile these proverbs, the author consulted various sources and references. The difference between this work and other cultural collections, especially Dehkhoda’s Proverbs and Sayings, is that it carefully and scientifically extracts proverbs from wisdom literature. The foundation of the work is based on Dr. Anvari’s Proverbs Dictionary, from which the author selected 343 proverbs out of over 30,000. The book begins with an introduction to culture, historical background, etymology, and meanings, followed by an exploration of Iran’s intellectual and cultural environment. The final section of the book is dedicated to proverbs from other nations along with their Persian equivalents. For this purpose, the author studied the “Proverbs Dictionary” by Henry Davidoff, translated by Farid Javaherkalam, which contains about 20,000 proverbs from various nations and cultures, carefully selecting 472 proverbs, which are presented at the end of the book after final arrangements.
